Making NHS parent support easier to access through WhatsApp.
The Can-Do Approach already had valuable speech and language support for parents. The challenge was making that support easier to use around real family life.
Capture 1 redesigned the programme as a guided WhatsApp Business Platform journey, combining screening, bite-sized learning, downloadable resources, encouragement and access to human support in one familiar place.

“Ready for today’s step? It’s a short one — about four minutes.”

What we delivered
WhatsApp journey design, content transformation, screening, structured learning and live support
The situation
The content was good. Accessing it demanded too much time and focus.
The original programme was delivered as e-learning. It contained detailed, useful material, but parents often needed to find dedicated time, log in and work through content in a more traditional course environment.
For busy families, that could create friction. The team wanted to keep the depth and integrity of the programme while making it easier to access in shorter moments and on a device parents already used every day.
What changed
From a course people had to go to, to support that could travel with them.

The journey
We rebuilt the learning experience around the parent, not the platform.
One
Screen
A simple WhatsApp screening sequence gathers useful information and helps identify the right level or type of support.
Two
Learn
The programme content restructured into manageable stages rather than one sitting at a desk.
Three
Practise
Different versions of video, downloadable activities and tip sheets, so families use what helps most.
Four
Ask
The same thread supports two-way conversation where tailored feedback or a person is needed.
Five
Continue
Encouragement and progress prompts keep the programme feeling supported rather than shelved.
Content choice
Families pick the version that fits the moment they are in.
A four-minute clip on the way to nursery is not the same as sitting down with an activity sheet at the weekend. The journey offers both rather than assuming which one a parent has time for.
Because the content arrives in the conversation, nothing has to be found again later in a course library.
Step 4 is about turn-taking. How would you like it today?

Same thread · no login
One step, three ways to take it.
Behind the thread
One familiar conversation, with structure behind it.
Parents see a simple WhatsApp thread. Behind it sits structured automation that controls stages, content, screening questions, progress and the route into human support.
What the platform did
ManyChat provided the conversation and automation environment: the stages, the branching, the contact information and the shared inbox the team worked from.
What Capture 1 did
Translated an existing clinical programme into a usable messaging journey — organising the content, deciding what each stage should do and designing where a person belongs.
Human support
The technology does not remove the professional relationship.
Structured automation carries the routine part of the programme — the stages, the reminders, the resources. When a parent has a question that needs judgement, the same thread carries it to a practitioner.
No second channel, no waiting for a scheduled call, no starting the explanation again.
He’s doing the sounds but not putting them together yet. Is that normal at 2?
Good question — let me bring in one of the team.
Hi, it’s Sarah from the programme. That’s very common at this stage. Can you tell me which sounds he’s using most?
Structured journey → real person
The same conversation, continued by someone who can answer it.
Results
What changed.
Lower access friction
Parents reach the programme in a familiar mobile environment without learning another platform.
More flexible participation
Content can be used in shorter moments and revisited at the parent’s own pace.
A clearer support journey
Screening, learning, resources and support sit inside one joined-up experience.
Positive parent response
The programme reported positive feedback around tone, ease and usefulness.
A repeatable delivery model
A scalable way to transform structured support content into a digital-first messaging journey.
What this proves
Not every digital transformation needs another portal.
When the real barrier is access, attention or convenience, moving useful content closer to the person can be more valuable than adding another system they need to learn.
This project also shows why structured automation and human support are not opposites. The routine journey can be made easier while the professional support remains available where it adds value.

Could your support or learning programme work better as a conversation?
Show us how people access it today, where they stop or struggle, and which parts need a person. We can help you work out what should stay structured, what can move into messaging and where human support belongs.
